Rabbit Toy Groups

Provide rabbits with a variety of toys.

By Rabbits USA editors

One thing people may not know is that rabbits are playful and active. A rabbit might not play on cue, like a dog thrown a ball or a cat chasing a feather at the end of a string, but place a ball in a bunny’s play yard and watch your pet nudge the ball around in circles, or throw in a set of plastic keys and it’s only a matter of time before those keys are tossed about. Just like Fido, some rabbits do play fetch, so never underestimate the potential of rabbit play!

Here are some toy types to get your pet hopping, romping, tossing, digging and shredding:

Destroy Toys (Toys rabbits chew up):

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Old phone books
  • Grass mats
  • Untreated baskets
  • Nontoxic wood toys

Chase Toys (Toys rabbits nudge around):

  • Balls
  • Plastic tumblers

Snuggle Toys (Toys rabbits snuggle with):

  • Stuffed animals
  • Plush blankets or towels

Foraging Toys (Toys to challenge rabbits):

  • Hay- and treat-filled bags, boxes and cardboard rolls
  • Wood toys with treats wedged between the openings

Toss Toys (Toys rabbits toss around):

  • Baby teething rings
  • Plastic keys
  • Plastic cups

Toys To Hide In (Toys rabbits may sleep in/retreat to):

  • Cardboard bunny condos
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Plastic igloos
  • Tepee-style wicker mats

I never thought to use old phone books, my rabbit would probably love that!

This is a good article. Another thing I found my bunbuns love to chew is cardboard tubes. Paper towels and toilet paper tubes make great toys. Once the paper good is used up, just toss the tube in the cage, and they do the rest!
