Mice and Other Pets

Your small mouse may look like a meal to other animals in the house.

By Audrey Pavia

Because mice are small and serve as prey to many species of animals, it’s not a good idea to introduce them to your cat, dog, bird or ferret. Even rats prey on mice, so it’s not safe to house them together. Instead, keep your mouse well away from these other pets. Don’t even allow them near your mouse’s enclosure since their presence will cause your mouse great stress.

You can house rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters in the same room with your mouse, but make sure they are in separate cages and can’t interact.

That's weird... my pet mouse, Penelope and my mom's pet rat, Justin get along just fine. Justin even groomed Penelope.
