Guinea Pig Food Storage And Safety Tips

Learn to keep your guinea pig’s food fresh.

By Audrey Pavia

Storing Pellets
Keep a guinea pig’s pellets stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry place. Do not purchase more than a two-month supply of pellets since the nutritional value diminishes over time.

Storing Fresh Foods
Fresh vegetables should be kept in the refrigerator. Do not feed wilted or rotted vegetables to guinea pigs.

Storing Hay
Hay should be stored in a cool, dry place away from rain or dew to prevent mold.
