How To Make A Ferret Shoe Bed
Use these step-by-step instructions to create a shoe bed for your ferret.

If you can run a sewing machine and cut out a pattern, you're less than 20 steps away from making a shoe bed for your ferret!

Creating A Pattern
Supplies needed to make the ferret shoe bed pattern:
- Newspaper or large newsprint paper
- Scissors
- 1/2 inch thick foam
- Marking pen
- Tape

Determine the size shoe you want by the size of the bottom of the shoe. Cut the oval first from newspaper so that you will have a pattern. Use pattern to cut the 1/2 inch foam in an oval. This oval is 19 by 12 inches, which should easily hold two or three ferrets. (Click image to enlarge.)

Cut one oval for shoe bottom. Then cut half of a lengthwise bottom for the heel of the shoe. (Click image to enlarge.)

Wrap a sheet of newspaper around the foam and tape closed. (Click image to enlage.)

Cut newspaper as shown in the picture. The low end will become the heel of the shoe and the higher end will become the toe and top cover of the shoe. (Click image to enlarge.)

At this point, you can adjust the top of the shoe as seen in the picture. It can have a fuller or a more trim line sock-top by adjusting the pattern in the middle of the sides of the pattern. Cut the shoe lace-up part by holding newspaper from the center of the heel, to 2 inches before the front center (toe). (Click image to enlarge.)

Take oval shoe bottom pattern and cut another similar pattern one that is 1 inch wider all around. (This will cover the foam. The smaller oval will become a washable shoe insert.) (Click image to enlarge.)
