This ferret-shaped hidey-hole sewing project is a little more advanced to construct than the shoe bed. It will take longer and will test your creative skill a little more. But, with a little patience, you will have a wonderful new addition to your ferret's furniture.
Supply List
For this project, you need the following items:
- 1/2 yard of medium brown fake fur
- 1/4 yard of dark brown fake fur
- 1/4 yard of light brown fake fur
- 1/4 yard of any color fleece for the inside lining
- A remnant of black, white fleece fro eyes
- A remnant of pink (or black) for a nose
- Fabric scraps for stuffing the legs, tail and head
- 1 yard of 1/2 inch foam rubber
- A large tablet of newsprint
- A felt marker
- Thread
- Scissors
- Long straight pins
Creating A Pattern
Follow the next seven steps to create the pattern for the ferret-shaped hidey-hole.

These first drawings give you a general pattern idea. Changes can be made to the pattern as you go along. After changes have been made, you can redraw your pattern so that you have a good pattern for making future hidey-holes. They make a wonderful gift to donate to SOS or a ferret shelter raffle. |

Cutting Fabric & Foam Make sure you cut enough of each piece. You need one tail, eight legs, two oval bottoms, two ferret bodies in fake fur and two in fleece for lining. (Click image to enlarge.) |

Cutting Fabric & Foam Cut out all the pieces for the face of the ferret making sure you cute the colors you want for the various features of the ferret like mask (cut 1), ears (cut 4), eyes and color around eyes (cut 2 each). Cutting the foam for the bottom (cut 1), the body (cut 2). For the head and legs you can use fleece and fake fur scraps to stuff the insides. (Click image to enlarge.) |
