More Unusual Ferret Guilty Pleasures
But just as with people, although there are guilty pleasures common among them, there are many that are unique to each individual. It’s these extreme, idiosyncratic behaviors that make ferrets fascinating and utterly adorable.
Taylor of Kansas is absolutely right when he says, “Each one has their own special vice.” He shares a few of his own ferret’s loves, “One loves anything plastic, another anything that makes the crinkly noise. The third loves water and baths, and the last one love bright things on strings.”
Suzi in Illinois said her ferrets engage in a wide array of guilty pleasures. Along with stealing and hiding the remote control and her keys, they enjoy other common ferrety guilty pleasures such as biting her feet, chasing cats and shredding magazines. But they also enjoy some unique activities. She describes a few. “Stealing the middle of my pillow and curling up when I get up in the night to use the bathroom. They know they look too cute for me to move them,” She also said they jump on the computer keyboard when she tries to type, dig on the top of her head when she’s sleeping and groom her eyebrows when she tries to sleep. And what is possibly the favorite guilty pleasure of Suzi’s ferrets? “Basically waking me up is an all-time favorite.”
Some guilty pleasures are just as silly as ferrets themselves. Anne of Arkansas has a ferret that enjoys doing something very strange — collecting forks. She learned of this after finding 15 forks beneath the bedroom dresser.
The Next Buzz On Ferrets
In April's The Buzz On Ferrets column, Rebecca Stout explores the question, “What is the biggest mess your ferret ever made? How long did it take to clean up? Did you laugh about it then, or ever?” Want to send an answer for her to possibly use? Click Here>>

Anne Kaelber Arizona shares something rather personal about her ferret. “Raphael’s guilty pleasure would have to be running under my area rugs and carpet runners. He also likes to crawl into pants still being worn when someone is in the bathroom.”
Ah yes, the sight of a fuzzy donut sitting in your pants and looking up at you while you seat the porcelain throne. I’ve experienced that many times with virtually every ferret I’ve ever owned, because I feel guilty locking the bathroom door to preclude them from the pleasure. Ferrets well know how to use those cute faces to their advantage.
I’ve found that ferret owners all share one major thing in common regarding their ferret’s guilty pleasures. And that is our own guilty pleasure of giving in to our pet’s desires no matter how loony they are. Ferrets take great delight in many peculiar things and most of all the risks that may come with them. However, Davis sums it up with this one statement, “Guilt, did you say? Ferrets and guilt just don’t go together.”
