Q: I’m getting ferrets soon, and they will be traveling back and forth with me to my mom’s when I stay for the weekend. Is that going to be too stressful on them? My other alternative is to keep them at my dad’s, but that means they’ll be in the cage until I come home. From my research, that will be stressful on them. What should I do?
A: Ferrets can be pretty adaptable, especially once they get used to a routine. Make sure they have a similar cage setup in both places, and they are only in their travel cage for a short time. Keep the travel cage as comfortable as possible with a hammock, bedding, toys, etc. Many people travel with their ferrets, so I feel like they will get used to the travel routine. Having a caring owner who is thinking through these issues ahead of time is great!
