Ferret Screams When It Plays

Is it possible to stop a ferret from screaming when it plays?

Q: I have a ferret that is about a year and a half old. She has this habit of screaming at the top of her lungs when she plays. At first we thought it was because she was scared and did not like our other four ferrets and it was her defense. But she has lived with them for about a year and is fine, but she screams even when we are playing with her. She will dook and plays back just like the other four, but she just screams. Do you have any idea why she does that or how to make her stop?

A: That is a pretty odd behavior for a ferret! It is possible that your ferret is deaf and can't, therefore, tell that she is screaming. It could also be the way she learned to play.

If it doesn't bother the other ferrets, then I wouldn't worry about it, as they have probably adjusted. It may be worthwhile to check if your screaming ferret is deaf though.
