Overcoming Sadness After Losing A Ferret

Will a new ferret help someone overcome the loss of a beloved ferret?

Q: I’m a ferret lover. About two or three years ago, my sweet little ferret, Missy, died. Every now and then I feel very sad and a little, tiny bit depressed about her. Do you know what I should do? Do you think getting another ferret would help me get over her?

A: Getting a new ferret is only a good idea if you are ready and it is a decision based on facts and your lifestyle, not one based on grief. Each ferret has a different personality, and a new ferret won’t replace or fill the hole left by Missy. There is always a risk of being disappointed when the new ferret isn’t Missy.
