Farewell To Summer

It’s a busy month at FerretsMagazine.com

It's all about ferrets at FerretsMagazine.com and at shows like the Buckeye Bash and 2008 International Ferret Congress symposium.

Despite September ushering out summer, it’s going to be a good month here at FerretsMagazine.com! If you ever wanted to get in touch with your inner ferret, Alexandra Sargent-Colburn answers that need with a fun quiz that you’re sure to get a laugh from. Look for her quiz to debut in our feature section on September 15.

But what’s available right now, you ask? Plenty! We launched the new issue September 1 with a column from Bob Church that details how “speaking ferret” helped train a biting ferret to be a loving companion. And Troy Lynn Eckart takes us inside life at the Lakeroad Ferret Farm Rescue Shelter. Ever wondered how often you should bathe your ferret? Check out the article “Ferret Grooming Through The Years.” You might be surprised. For the crochet enthusiasts out there, we’ve got crochet patterns by Katrina Sword for creating egg toys for ferrets, coming September 22. On the health side, Sandra Mitchell discusses diabetes in ferrets. Her article will debut on September 8.

We add a new feature article almost every Monday, exceptions being when the 1st of the month hits around the same time.

Ailigh Vanderbush and Dr. Karen Rosenthal are hard at work answering your questions every month, so be sure to check out the Ferret FAQs and Ask The Doc sections of the site. For those who want some fun, enter the Product Spotlight contest or Picture Perfect contest. And don’t forget to check out one of my favorite sections of the site, the Cartoon Fun section with Jeremy Vickneswaran’s latest cartoon.

I just got back this week from the Buckeye Bash in Columbus, Ohio. It was another successful show with hundreds of ferrets vying for top placement in the various show rings. There were also fun events like the tube race, plus plenty of shopping opportunities with the many vendors. Have you been to a ferret event? If not, the 2008 International Ferret Symposium might be something to consider. Ferrets don’t generally attend, but you can meet plenty of ferret enthusiasts and learn a ton about ferrets from the many speakers during the three-day event. It takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from November 7 to November 9, 2008.

Whatever you’re up to in these last days of summer, I hope it’s fun and memorable for you and your ferret.
