Temperament:  Nocturnal, enjoys being handled, easily tamed. Can be nippy if disturbed during the day when it’s trying to sleep. Prefers to live on its own rather than in the company of other hamsters.

Syrian Species Profile

A rodent with a desert origin, the Syrian hamster is the most commonly kept pet hamster. It has golden-brown fur that fades to a paler shade on the belly and dark markings that run from the jaw up the cheek to the ear.
