Lila ferret stands 11 inches tall and is holding a holly twig.
I bumped into this ferret figurine while browsing Etsy, and I could not stop staring at it. What was it? The description said it was made from spun cotton, but what was that?
It turns out working with spun cotton to create one-of-a-kind (OOAK) ornaments and figurines is an art that was a cottage industry in Germany more than 150 years ago. Artists are now trying to recreate this style, and one of them is Sara Duarte, owner of the Spun On Cotton shop at Etsy and creator of this fine ferret.
The ferret’s name is Lila, and she is 11 inches tall. Duarte writes that Lila is the tallest figurine she has made so far and took a lot of spinning to create. The story behind Lila is that she is out for a walk to pick foliage for a seasonal bouquet.
