California Ferret Organization Granted Nonprofit Status

With its new nonprofit status, the California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance can begin fundraising to aid education efforts in California about ferrets.

The California Domestic Ferret Educational Alliance recently received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the Internal Revenue Service. The CDFEA has one goal: to educate Californians about the domestic ferret, an animal currently banned as a pet in the state of California.

The new nonprofit status allows the CDFEA to begin fundraising, and members of the organization hope that the tax exempt funds raised by the group can be used to pay for studies on the domestic ferrets' impact on the environment in other states as they relate to the current status of domestic ferrets in California. Further, the CDFEA is working to establish informational teams that will be sent to various public venues to interact with the general public and provide information that is relevant to ferret education.

For more information, visit the CDFEA website or e-mail, or write to CDFEA, P.O. Box 53306, Irvine, CA 92619-3306, or call (949) 241-1189.

This is wonderful news, this is so needed in CA. Maybe things are finally falling into place and we can stop hiding our harmless, and very loving furkids.

Having positive infomation on the legal atatus of ferrets in California and getting the word out to the rest of the state hopefully will help legalize these wonderful pets. I currently have four fuzzies myself.

I think that it's great that people are approaching the issue of ferrets in California by providing solid information rather than emotion.
There is way too much false info out there. We need to get to the truth of the matter.
