This January 2008, several ferret organizations banded together to form a multi-organizational council that will assist with large-scale ferret rescues. The formation of this council comes in the wake of the rescue of more than 100 ferrets in January 2008 from a ferret shelter in Virginia and the September 2007 rescue of more than 500 ferrets from a breeder in Ohio, which were the latest of several large-scale ferret rescues since 2000.
Members of the American Ferret Association; Ferrets Across America; The Ferret Emergency Response, Rescue and Evacuation Team; The International Ferret Congress; Support Our Shelters; and shelter liaison Barb Clay of Rocky’s Ferret Shelter and Rescue, will work together to assist or help prevent the need for large-scale ferret rescues. A discussion group has formed on this topic. Click here for more information.
