Time is running out to vote for your favorite veterinarian in the America’s Favorite Veterinarian contest.

The America’s Favorite Veterinarian contest is in its final stage — voting! People can now vote once a day for one of the 20 finalists chosen by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation from nominations that came in from the public for a month beginning in May. But get clicking now, because the deadline for votes is before midnight Eastern time on September 1.

The profiles of these veterinarians make worthwhile reading, lifting your spirits with stories of veterinarians who make house calls, car pool pets for senior owners, establish a bond with a pet whom other veterinarians gave up on and so many other heartwarming facts. Some common themes emerged of veterinarians who have loved animals since childhood and want to help them and their owners.

Members of the ferret community are rallying behind Dr. Robert Wagner of Pennsylvania because of all he has done to advance knowledge about ferret health. As noted by his nominator, Sharon, "This amazing man has done so much for companion ferrets by donating his time and energy for shelter ferrets, by spending long hours in the lab doing health research to make life better for companion ferrets and by writing papers to aid his peers in understanding the health issues of companion ferrets…”

Voting is easy, and the 20 veterinarians in the running are:

Tyra Davis-Brown of Louisiana  Letria Miller of Connecticut
Treyton J. Diggs of Louisiana  Katy Nelson of Washington DC
Ann Marie Hill of California  Shana O’Marra of Massachusetts
Tim Hunt of Michigan  Cynthia Otto of Pennsylvania
Steve Kasanofsky of New York  Tina Roggenbeck of Michigan
Stephanie Liff of New York  Jeff Todd of North Carolina
Bonnie Markoff of California  Erin Troy of California
Natalie Marks of Illinois  Nicholas Vaughan of Texas
Laura McLain Madsen of Utah  Page Wages of North Carolina
Mary Mehler of Pennsylvania  Robert Wagner of Pennsylvania

The winning veterinarian receives a $500 cash prize, a trip to the AVMA 2015 convention in Boston, a celebration at their clinic for staff and clients and being featured for a year on the AVMF website.

In addition, the person who nominated the veterinarian receives a gift pack of pet treats and goodies.

Last year was the first year of this contest, and Dr. Carlos Campos of Florida was named the winner and reigned for a year. Who will win this year’s America’s Favorite Veterinarian contest? It’s up to your votes!
