Oxbow Animal Health has announced the schedule for its 2012 Oxbow Veterinarian Camps. In addition to Junior Vet Camp sessions taking place throughout June and July, this summer’s schedule will feature two sessions of Intermediate Vet Camp – a new camp designed for students completing 6th to 8th grade. Both veterinarian camps are designed to cultivate children’s interest in animals and veterinary medicine in fun, engaging ways.
Junior Vet Camp is designed for students completing 2nd to 4th grade. Oxbow Junior Vet Camp offers children a unique, hands-on learning experience focusing on animals of all shapes and sizes and what veterinarians do every day to keep them healthy. Campers will practice activities performed by real veterinarians, including animal health exams, record-keeping, and mock surgery.
Intermediate Vet Camp is new this year. It offers students completing 6th to 8th grade the chance to learn about various aspects of veterinary science, including animal anatomy and physiology, nutrition, parasitology, general examinations and X-ray analysis. Intermediate Vet Campers will practice basic examination techniques and perform a simulated bone fracture surgery. Professionals from various animal-related careers will also present and answer questions.

The 2012 Oxbow Junior and Intermediate Vet Camps will take place in nine sessions throughout the Omaha and Lincoln areas in Nebraska throughout June and July.
“Oxbow Vet Camp is a one-of-a-kind experience for children interested in learning more about animals and animal health,” said Alicia Armentrout, Oxbow’s education coordinator.
