The goal of Petfinder.com’s Big Birthday Adoption Event, scheduled for Friday, July 15, 2011, to Sunday, July 17, 2011, is to find homes for 15,000 pets. So far, nearly 1,500 shelter and rescue groups from the United States and Canada have agreed to participate by holding an adoption event at their facility or by teaming up with other adoption organizations in their community.
“Petfinder.com is the only animal welfare organization with a network this large, so we decided it was time to bring everyone together at one time to hold adoption events from state to state, coast to coast,” said Petfinder.com co-founder Betsy Banks Saul.
Prospective adoptive parents should visit the Petfinder.com website to view a list of participating shelters and rescue groups. Petfinder.com encourages animal lovers who are not able to adopt at this time to donate money, supplies or their time to their local animal shelter or recue group. Petfinder.com Foundation, which provides funding and support to animal welfare organizations, is also accepting donations.
“I am beyond thrilled to watch the weekend adoptions unfold,” said Banks Saul. “We could not be more thrilled to be celebrating our birthday in such a monumental way.”
Since its launch in 1996, Petfinder.com reports that it has facilitated 17 million adoptions.
