Rabbits are some of the pets that found a new home in 2010 thanks to the Iams Home 4 The Holidays pet adoption campaign.
More than 1.1 million animals were adopted during the Iams Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption campaign, Iams reported on January 10, 2011. In addition, the pet food brand plans to donate 5 million meals to animal organizations as part of the campaign’s new Bags 4 Bowls program.
The annual Iams Home 4 the Holidays event, held October 1, 2010, through January 4, 2011, aimed to promote animal adoption and help place animals from longtime partner Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California, and more than 3,500 animal organizations around the world.
During the 2010 campaign, homes were found for a total of 1,125,667 animals — specifically, 593,146 dogs, 509,470 cats and 23,051 other animals, including rabbits, reptiles, horses and birds.
Nearly 1.4 million animals were adopted during the 2009 event. Since it began in 1999, the Iams Home 4 the Holidays has contributed to the adoption of 5.7 million pets.
“With all the hard work that animal organizations do every day, we’re thrilled to be able to support those efforts and shine an even brighter light on the issues and importance of pet adoption each year with this program,” said Mike Arms, founder of Iams Home 4 the Holidays and president of Helen Woodward Animal Center. “We’re all very proud of the success we’ve had over the years and will continue to work together in the hopes that one day every homeless pet will be in a loving home for all their holidays.”
This year’s event also featured the Bags 4 Bowls food drive. For every specially marked package of Iams dog or cat food purchased during the campaign, Iams pledged to donate one bowl of food — up to 3 million meals — to a participating animal organization. Iams also pledged to donate meals — up to 2 million — in return for Facebook users who “like” the Iams Facebook page or any items posted by new adoptive pet owners, aka “Adoption Angels.”
Iams, which is made by P&G Pet Care, reported that the drive reached its goal, and as a result, the company will donate 5 million meals to participating organizations. Meal size is based on one feeding for an average size dog or cat.
The 2011 Home 4 the Holidays event is slated to begin this October.
