Children who are 5 to 15 years old as of May 24, 2010 can submit a name for the CareFRESH guinea pig mascot and have a chance to win a $20,000 scholarship annuity.
“Lots of kids in grades 4 to 7 are responsible for taking care of small pets,” said Shawn Dooley, CareFRESH vice president. “We want to help them to be good pet owners and also reward them for giving our guinea pig a cool name.”
How is CareFRESH® doing this? By offering a $20,000 scholarship annuity and Wii game system to the child who submits the winning name for the CareFRESH guinea pig mascot.
As stated on the CareFRESH website: “He’s got brains, style and a wicked smile. But there’s one thing our guinea pig mascot hasn’t got — a name. You can give him one!”
The scholarship contest is part of CareFRESH Critter College, a free lesson kit for grades 4 to 7 that teaches children how to safely care for small pets like guinea pigs, rabbits, gerbils and hamsters.
In order to enter the scholarship contest, children have to pass a quick quiz on responsible small pet ownership. The answers can be found in the Critter College curriculum or on the CareFRESH website.
Children, with permission from their parents, can visit the scholarship page to suggest a name for the CareFRESH guinea pig, who has a toothy smile, cool shades and a punked-out rainbow hairdo. More details about the contest are on this page.
CareFRESH will select five finalists and put them to a vote on its website. All finalists will receive a Wii game system. The winning name also earns a $20,000 scholarship annuity.
Entries must be received by June 1, 2011. The contest is open only to residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia who are between the ages of 5 and 15 as of May 24, 2010. Finalists will be selected by July 15, 2011 and the grand prize winner by January 6, 2013.
