Super Tonks, the superhero ferret, celebrates his 7th birthday on May 26, 2010. Birthday cards sent to him generate 1-pound of ferret food per card to help ferret shelters.
Through mailing list, e-mail and more, the word is spreading – May 26, 2010, is the 7th birthday of Super Tonks, a superhero ferret. Super Tonks protects goodness and all ferret kind, according to his website. He also wishes to promote the art of poofing.
How do you celebrate a superhero’s birthday? By helping others, at least that’s the belief of the people at Totally Ferret, a manufacturer of ferret food and treats, and other pet food items.
To help Super Tonks in his superhero mission to help others, Totally Ferret announced that it will donate 1 pound of ferret food to F.E.R.R.E.T. for every birthday card sent by May 26 via postal mail to Super Tonks. Cards must arrive by May 26. The address to send to is:

The recent storms in the Southeast once again shine light on the need to assist ferret shelters devastated by natural disasters. Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes – natural disasters can strike anywhere. The Ferret Emergency Response, Rescue and Evacuation Team (F.E.R.R.E.T.), a nonprofit organization that formed in 2006, assists ferret shelters in times of major disaster.
“F.E.R.R.E.T. is so pleased to be able to accept this,” said Renee Downs, a member of the F.E.R.R.E.T. board of directors. “As we prepare to enter hurricane season on June 1, we sincerely hope our friends in that zone don't have a windy season. The tornadoes have already been quite enough. I will be sending my birthday card to my Super Hero Super Tonks and so will all of [my] ferrets. I think they each need to send their own, ya’ know? Hmmm, that is 5 pounds of food!”
Totally Ferret is part of Performance Foods, Inc. April Pietroiacovo is a ferret specialist at Totally Ferret, and her ferret Isabella is both a spokesferret for Totally Ferret and the “wife” of Super Tonks. It’s a long-distance marriage, because the husband and wife ferret live in two different states.
“All ferret's birthdays are special, and we should celebrate them.” Pietroiacovo said. “In a way we are not just celebrating Super Tonks’ Birthday but celebrating all the ferrets and giving back.” She said that giving back is what Totally Ferret is all about.
