Providing a nurturing and comfortable rabbit home involves more than just heading down to the pet store and picking up a few things. Buying the proper housing accessories is only half of the equation. In theory, buying a cage, necessary accessories and setting up house sounds easy, but there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to habitats.
Having Fun Indoors
For owners who choose to house their rabbit indoors, rust-proof wire cages work well. Always choose the right cage for the size of the rabbit or rabbits. Another concern is flooring. “The bottom of their feet is not really tissue, but skin, bone and hair,” said Sheila Newenham, DVM, who’s one of the veterinarians at the Animal Hospital of Streamwood in Streamwood, Ill. “The hair is all they have to protect their feet.”
