Strange Protrusion On Sugar Glider Causes Concern

A small, red, forklike potrusion brings concern to a sugar glider observer.

Q: I noticed two red, wormlike structures protruding out of a sugar glider's anus. What are these? What is this?

A: Because you did not mention if this is a male or a female sugar glider, I am going to assume this is a male. What you are looking at is the unusual shape of the male sugar glider's penis. The male has a bifurcated penis. It consists of two shafts and resembles the forked tongue of a snake. This is actually not protruding from its anus but from a common opening called a cloaca. The glider should be able retract the penis back into the cloaca. If not, you may want to bring him to your veterinarian.

We are very new parents to our baby sugar gliders. I was hoping for a little more info in the answer for other things that may appear from that opening, even if it isn't a "normal"thing. For example, we see red come out of that opening during expelling their poopoo. It goes right back in so we assume it was normal (while we are continuing to devour information). Yet last night the larger one that poos more in amount and in firmness, has something very white also come out but seemed to be "sucked" back in. Of course this frightens us even as I write this. I stayed up all night looking at every credible information I could find but still have not found someone who mentioned this possibility. HELP!!!! Is my glider in serious danger? It's sunday and we were going to look for a vet tomorrow but right now I would gladly do anything to take of this. Any ideas or answers?
