Pain Relief For A Rabbit With A Hurt Eye

Can an owner do anything for a rabbit that hurt its eye?

Q: My rabbit hurt his eye somehow. What should I do? Are there any pain killers I can give him to help relieve his pain or something?

A: There are no safe pain medications for people that you may have at home that you can give your rabbit. You can use cool compresses if there is swelling and you think this condition is due to trauma. But, of course, the best answer is to either go to your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital to determine what is wrong with your rabbit’s eye.

The structures of the eye are very complicated. Trauma and infection can cause damage, sometimes permanent, to these structures; the sooner they are treated, the better the chance that any damage to your rabbit’s eye is not permanent.
