Guinea Pig Vibrates

Is it normal for guinea pigs to vibrate when being held?

Q: When I hold my guinea pig she vibrates, then stops, then vibrates, then stops and so on. Is she relaxed (I don’t think so) or is she nervous? If she is nervous, how can I help her to overcome her worries?

A: Please put your mind at ease. This “vibrating” is a very good thing and is considered as purring, not unlike a cat. It is a wonderful indication of contentment, and you can enjoy this very dear bond that you have developed with your guinea pig.
