Lollipop-Stealing Pet Rats
By Shellyane Bryan
A rat owner from England shares tales of living with her rats named Mouse, Slinky and Diddy.

So, apparently rats like lollipops. Quite a lot in fact, if Mouse running off with my strawberries and cream Chupa Chup is anything to go by.
It was really quite entertaining, because she snatched it right out of my hand and ran like the wind! I almost considered letting her keep it, because it was adorable watching her licking and chewing away, but things like that are obviously bad for ratties, so I had to take it away from her. She didn’t seem very happy about that and followed me around the room until she got bored of the chase and darted off, promptly falling asleep behind the sofa.
Ten minutes later, however, Slinky tried to do the same thing! I gave her a couple of licks, but I wasn’t going to let her try to steal it too. Of course, as the other two had tested it, I gave Diddy a little lick. Strangely enough, she wasn’t very bothered by the taste. She can be very strange about food sometimes. One would think she’s wouldn’t be fussy about food, being a rat, but she often turns her nose up at things like a little princess. She lazes about like one too. I should make a little, paper tiara for her.
Slinky would be the knight of the group, with a little sword and an adorable suit of armor. I’m not sure what part of the crew Mousey would make, but it wouldn’t involve a lot of movement, lazy thing (unless, of course, lollies are involved! She only moves that quickly when food is around...)
