The rats and their personalities are very much different to each other. This is something I really love about rats. No two of them tend to be alike.
My rat Mouse is quite dippy, but loving nonetheless. Sometimes she hangs back, like the cool, older rat, while the other two excitedly fling themselves at the door first thing in the morning, begging for love and attention. I can still see elements of her ratling years when she used to clamber over Dumbo the rat. She was always playful, but tended to take things a bit too far by tugging ears and nipping toes. She still does that, but far less often now that there are two rats in her midst to fight back! Having said that, I don’t think Mouse really means any harm when she bites toes. She doesn’t even bite. She very gently tugs toes; sometimes she does it a little too hard and causes some squeaks here and there.
My rat Slinky, on the other hand, is the adventurous little one. Very curious, very energetic and very cheeky, she has learnt a few naughty little habits over the past few weeks. She knows exactly where to find the treats now and she always recognizes the rustle of rodent chocolate and sweets. The moment the cage door is open, she’s up and out of the cage, skittering across the top to clamber down the other side and into the food box, where she sneakily snatches up a treat or two and retreats. I don’t even notice, sometimes!
My rat Diddy, however, is a bit like Mouse’s protégé. She sleeps about as much as Mouse does and has a tendency to be incredibly lazy. Oh, and one of her main concerns is, of course, food. Sometimes I can’t tell the different between the two of them when I can’t see Diddy’s face!
