Dumbo the rat enjoys getting treats for doing nothing while her owner is away on vacation.
Dumbo the rat here. My owner has deserted my little sister rat, Mouse, and I for 10 whole days and packed us away to the chilly north, in South Yorkshire, while she enjoys a holiday in sunny California (though from what my ratty ears have heard, it hasn't been so sunny!).
I'm not going to complain about how unfair it is that we, her wonderful rats, are stuck in breezy old England, because it really isn't so bad. Currently, we're being tended to by our owner's brother's friend (longwinded!), who also has two strange and large furry creatures known as rabbits that keep staring at us with their little beady eyes, chobbling away on a stick of carrot. I can't help wondering where our carrots to munch on are.
Anyway, lately my owner has been trying all kinds of new things with us, from teaching us tricks to putting a lead on us to walk around the garden. Now, don't get me wrong. There is nothing I like more than to venture into the great outdoors from time to time, but with all those cats around I would rather be inside my house. My owner really tried to convince me to wear that silly green lead, but I didn't like it at all, and no one tells rat Dumbo Duncanson-Bryan what to do — except when it involves treats, of course. She tried it on Mouse too. Fortunately for my sister rat, she's still too small at the moment to properly fit it.
The great thing about learning tricks, however, is all the delicious chocolatey rat treats I get! Mouse is jealous because she is too young to concentrate for long enough to learn anything, so she doesn't get rewarded as much as I do. Even better though — at the moment I get rat treats for doing nothing at all! My rat-sitter doesn't know I can do any tricks, so I just get chocolate rat drops for being a cute bundle of fluff (cuter than those rabbits). No one will have any explanation for the weight I'll put on by the end of the week. My owner will just love me even more. I know she's really missing both of us rats.
