When To Visit A Vet

Look for these signs to know when your chinchilla is sick.

By Jennifer Mons McLaughlin

“Chinchilla’s are a prey animal and, as such, they tend to hide illness very well,” said Kenneth Welle, DVM of All Creatures Animal Hospital in Urbana, Ill. “If they do show signs of illness, it is often worse than it looks.”

Seek veterinary care immediately if a chinchilla:

  • Stops eating
  • Has stool changes
  • Has a runny nose
  • Is drooling
  • Is lethargic
