Remembering Joanna
Remembering Joanna
All through the month of April we on the Horse Channel want to honour a dear friend who passed away last year. In February her beloved pony, Pixie Dust, also passed away to join her in the next life.

Perhaps some of you remember me mentioning Joanna last year when she died. She was a very special friend. She was bedridden for many years but didn't lose her happy spirit. She was on the HC for 3 years and blogged regularly, always having a kind word for those in trouble. Not once did any of us suspect that she wasn't well! At the age of 34 she passed away peacefully at home.
On my pages I have photos of Joanna in bed being visited by Pixie Dust. She had a wonderful relationship with her pony and made friends easily with all those who were blessed to have her in their lives.

Thanks so much for your kind words regarding my passing. Yes, it's me, Acorn, writing! Mama wasn't sure what she was going to do. She's never let her animals who have passed on blog because it makes her too sad but she decided to make an exception for me. And good thing too! What would SHE write about on here?
So, here I am, writing from the other side. And I've instilled some of my cheekiness in my squirrel friends that I left behind. Mama was driving home a couple of days ago and a squirrel was crossing the driveway. Unlike her neighbour, she stopped and didn't run it over!
The squirrel had a huge peanut in its mouth. One of mine, I know. Mama has been putting out my peanuts and acorns for the other squirrels. Anyway, not to begrudge food I can no longer eat, the squirrel scampered a few feet and sat down. Mama drove a few more feet. The squirrel hopped a couple more and stopped. Mama drove a couple more… you get the picture.
Finally, the squirrel ran into the carport. Mama drove halfway in and the squirrel stopped and started burying the peanut right there in the gravel while mama sat patiently with the engine running watching the little sneak!
She had two dogs with her in the car, Melian and Kermit, who were going insane. As soon as she let them out they took off into the forest like flying banshees. Good thing the squirrel was long gone by then! They knew me but who knows what they would do with a strange squirrel.

Merry Christmas everyone! We are back! The Cape Cod Crew:) I got a new laptop today which means we can blog again! WOOHOO! I was able to get all the photos onto her computer, but for some reason some wont upload. But I will put the photos that can go up, up. Hehe!
Jazz & Felix got two new toys, rawhide bones, and two new leashs! Felix was so excited. He chewed on his bone all morning, and finished it! He started chewing Jazzys bone.. hehe. Jazz was into the toys. Both seem pleased with their presents:) Freedom got a big apple. He loved it!
Our cousin Jimmy came home today. He was in Korea for the war. I was so happy to see him. He will be staying for a couple of weeks, and he got a new truck for christmas! That was my favorite present.
It feels so good to be able to blog again, and i hope to hear from everyone. We have missed everyone so much!
Hoping everyone had a very merry christmas, and got lots of good goodies! Hehe!

How are you doing? Are you all prepared for the winter? Well, I know that you are. You have a nice warm house and a loving family. What more do you need?
Mama and her friends have collected a whole pile of big, beautiful green acorns. They can't resist picking them up when they're out hiking. They say I'm special. I get imported acorns!
But... you won't believe what else mama did. She picked half my apples! And tomorrow she's planning on picking the rest. She finally got fed up of how many I was taking. I told he I'd share a couple of the smaller wormy ones with her. I just don't understand it...
I wanted to mention something sad that happened on HC. A good friend and regular blogger from there died last Friday. She was young but had been bedridden for the past 10 years with some congenital disease. No one had any idea that she was like this and it all came as a shock to us, her friends. Mama said she never complained once which is why we had no idea. It just shows that you never can judge what a person is going through.

How are you doing? I know, I know it's a been a loooooong time since I've written. I've been busy finding food, playing, sleeping, basically doing all the things that a squirrel does best. What has mama been doing? Well, she's been hitting her head.
Sigh! In July she was a in bike accident. She somersaulted and landed directly on her head. After losing her hearing for a bit she was okay but had a concussion that affected her for almost 2 weeks.
And then guess what she did last month! Which reminds me, Happy Birthday! I'm so sorry I missed it. Your birthday was right when this next accident happened. Her horse went crazy and bucked her off. She landed on her head (is there a magnet in there?) again and this time was knocked out for about half an hour. She was rushed to the ER and is still having some trouble from that brain injury.
So, no riding for her for at least 2 months. She'll drive the horses instead. I think she should forget horses and stick to squirrels. In fact, did you know that today the 5th, it is exactly one year since mama found me? I was a tiny baby with a broken paw. If you don't know my story you can read it on my page under, "Celebrity I Most Resemble."
I do live in a kind of paradise. There are squirrel fruit trees everywhere. Squirrel fruits in the garden, squirrel nuts buried in the ground. Mama says they're called, apples, pears, melons, etc. I call them squirrel food. She's not too thrilled that I have to pick 5 or 6 apples and then pick the best ones for myself. Isn't that why she grows them?
Well, what have you been up to? Not hitting your head, I hope. Here's a vote for you and happy anniversary to me!

Alright, I gotta make this quick! First off. I am SOOOOO sorry I haven't blogged in such a long time. Its been real busy around here and ANY time we do have on a computer goes to the dogs. but I convinced mom to help me tonight too! Because some of my friends still don't know I had BABIES! Yup, I had 7 of them, One of them died yesterday but the others are all doing very well, and growing strong. Mom is so proud of me. I had them on March 19th, Your probably thinking 'That long ago and she is telling us NOW?!" yup. so sorry. again. They are all growing up so cute. Mom says she doesn't know where some of the coloring comes from as 3 are grayish. one is orange (Well I was that color young too) and then there is a big brown and gray one and the runt, a little gray mixed with some cream. I am uploading pictures tonight! Hehe. Hope to hear from ya'll soon!

Hi, I am Tobi, a black and white Dutch rabbit, and I am running for COTM in March. I am running - or should I say "hopping" - for two reasons, the first being that I tried in December and did not succeed. But the second is that I would love the friendships and my birthday is in March! I don't want COTM for Glory or for Votes, I want it for the friendships. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to make new friends!
~My Story~
I was "Rescued" at age 10 wks. by my kind kind Mommy. My owner was an animal abuser and she raised us in haystacks and let the rabbits run free. Most of us got attacked by cats and were killed. I was a lucky one - but my sister, Jessie, has serious scratches. When Mommy came and saw me, she immediately fell into love with the Dutch breed. She knew she shouldn't be paying for me to keep the lady in business, but I was $10 and I needed a new home. She put the money down and brought me home. She loved me from the start! She cared for me and gave me my own cage. She fed me excellent food. And I was happy with her, she took such nice care of me, she took me on walks, she took dozens of photos and videos of me. I was right away a "special bunny." Soon, she bought a female Dutch. I loved Mommy even more for bringing this wonderful companion into my life. In April, 2010, I was a proud daddy of six kits. In June of 2010, I was a proud daddy of seven kits. Sadly, they all died out. I continue to bring my Mommy as much joy as her dog, and my daily quirks and habits always crack Mom up. Not literally.
~Why I want COTM~
Despite all the good things in Mommy's life, she has had to deal with many difficulties in the past two-to-three years. She has had many human family members die, as well as many pets. But none of them were just "pets." Her dearest dog, Barney, was a faithful companion, loyal protector, and just the best dog you could have. In December of 2010, he stopped eating for over a week. When he did eat, he would throw up. She brought him to the vet and that was when she first heard the horrible words, "your dog has a tumor - the size of a basketball - in his liver." She was horrified. He lived for a little less than a week more, but when he started lying out in the snow and couldn't walk, she knew he was ready. Ever since his death, nothing has seemed the same to her. aPoLo tries to cheer her up, but life will never be the same without Barney. To help her over her grief, she said it would make her so proud to see her little boy in the Critter Of The Month. How are you doing? Wow, long time no blog. Well, on here anyway. Since Pippin was running for horse of the month last month all of the other channels kind of got neglected. Can you believe that? Who would choose a horse over a cute squirrel like me?
I've been having the time of my life. I now live completely outside by myself but I come down from the tree tops, or scamper across the ground several times a day to get treats from my humans. I like to keep them (the humans) contained so for the most part they stay inside the wall on my property and feed me treats on demand.
I don't stray far. I have several acres of ponderosa pines which I grudgingly share with "wild" squirrels. They have no manners and steal whenever the urge strikes them. And believe me, they get struck by that a lot. So, in retaliation I steal their peanuts and eat them! Fortunately, there are plenty of peanuts to spare and mama says that our forest has the fattest squirrels in squirreldom. I say a fat squirrel is a happy squirrel!
Are you being hit by all the snow and icy weather? We're really lucky here. It's been warm all month except for some freezing at night and even the trees are beginning to bud. I hope it stays this way but mama says it probably won't.
