never offended!
We are happy when people ask these questions because it's better to ask and be corrected than to think you know and be wrong! In this case you are correct. We are from the mustelid family! Or the weasel family. It's a common misconception that we are from the rodent family...but we are weasels not rats! Other animals in our family are of course real weasels, skunks, badgers, mink, sea otters, river otters, and also the wolverine! There are more I'm sure, but that's all I know about! Oh! And of course our closest two species, the polecat and the black footed ferret! Mustelid is the family that have scent glands to protect ourselves, like the skunk. Unfortunately to us, but not unfortunately for our humans, domestic ferrets that come from a pet store usually have that removed before we are taken home! It would be kinda cool for us to be able to stink up the joint! That's also where our natural musky odor comes from. It's not strong when the scent glands are removed, but it is there and bothers some more than others...our humans says she doesn't even smell it...bless her heart! lol You guys are rodents correct? I could be wrong...that's why I ask! Ferret hugs for you!Dook ya later! Stinky, Smudge, and their humans!
